Prussian Garde Landwehr Infantry NCO Pickelhaube
Very fine Guard Reserve NCO helmet
Prussian Guard Infantry Reserve/Landwehr NCO - Model 1891. Recent "Out of the woodwork" find. Heavy enlisted style leather helmet body with brass trim. Helmet has excellent form and firm stitching. No extra holes in the helmet body. The inside has the standard EM style black dyed leather liner which is still supple. Plain inner visors with no legible markings. Helmet has heavy leather body, M1891 side lugs, no vented back spine, 2 holed spike base with pearl ring and non-grommeted holes for fixing the frontplate to the helmet body all indicating the pre-1895 era.
Round early style spike base with pearl ring. The spike is removable for replacement with a plume for parade. Prussian Guard Reserve wide winged eagle without 'Mit Gott fur Koenig und Vaterland' banner. On the eagles breast is the silver star with a gold Landwehr cross in the center. The frontplate adheres to the helmet with loops and leather wedges. The frontplate has made a deep impression in the the helmet leather. Flat M1891 brass chinscales on M91 side lugs. The chinscales are complete but dirty. NCO style Reichs and Prussian 2 piece cockades. This shows the helmet was in continued use until 1897. Very fine Guard Reserve NCO helmet. Uncleaned and nicely salty.
