Prussian Felt Ersatz Infantry Enlisted - Unique Spike top
Mint Felt Helmet - Rare Spike top
Prussian Infantry Enlisted Man for Line Regiments - post circa 1915. From a prestigous US collection. Absolutely MINT, Green pressed felt helmet body with brass metal trim. The helmet body has excellent form. Exterior felt is in mint condition with bright color (see photos). No extra holes in the helmet body.
The frontplate is the brass Prussian Line Regiments eagle, held by the two original leather wedges. The eagle fits securely to the helmet shell. When the frontplate is removed we can see the distinct outline of the fading of the felt body over the last 100 years.
An interesting unique item to this helmet is a Brass Enlisted style M1915 removable spike top (see photos) that has a round base with split brad retainers. The interior has a mint black leather EM style lining with original leather drawstring. No marking inside back visor. The leather chinstrap appears original and has stamped letter on the inside (see photos). Original Reich and Prussian OR cockades. The perfect condition of this helmet makes us think that it is one of the 1919 war bond helmet. This is the finest Wartime felt we have seen. For the Collector this is a perfect example of a wartime felt ersatz helmet. RARE RARE helmet.
