Bavarian M1873 Uhlan Tschapka for Enlisted Man
Rare variant. Only used for a short period
Early Bavarian Enlisted Tschapka of the 1873 model. Basic changes from the Franco-Prussian War type 1864 was the additiuon of the front visor trim along with the introduction of the Fangschnur and the Felzeichen.
Black leather body with dark Red wool (Bordeau Rot). Overall body in excellent shape and condition, Leather sufferedf no cracks or crazing. The wool part shows some moth damage (see pictures) but overall kept its good looks. Some dust. A gothic "L" in german silver decorates the front part of the Tschapka. Top mortar board with the small lion head hook to attach the fangschnur.
A heavy set of original Chinscales maintained by two lion heads complete this beautiful Tschapka. Leather tired and shows some used of the scales but its all there considering a 150 year old piece that was only in use for a short period (13 years). Inside black leather lining complete and still supple. Feldzeichen is a copy that was added at a later time. Nice and rare Tschapka.
