Prussian Silver Enlisted Dragoon Pickelhaube
Nice original helmet that can use some TLC.
Prussian Dragoon Regiment – Enlisted Man - Model 1897. Heavy black leather helmet body with squared front visor and silver metal trim. Body remains in near Mint shape. Helmet has classic EM style with square front visor and firm stitching. Two re-pluged holes in helmet body. (That may explain the "3 DR." remnant of marking in the back visor along "1899" or "1889"?) The helmet interior has a black dyed leather EM tongued headliner. The liner is in good shape and still supple. Front visor marked to "Clemen" whao was a Helmet Maker.
The helmet has a silver crossed spike base with pearl ring EM style ornamentation at base of spike. Smooth removable spike that has some stress cracks (see pictures) were former collector has applied some repair paste. Large silver screwed brad retainers adhere cross base to helmet. The frontplate is the Prussian Dragoon Eagle in silver (cross on top of crown missing, see photo). The frontplate is retained with screws and nuts. Original set of EM style M1895 convex rounded brass chinscales fit over a M91 side lug. Original Enlisted style Reich and Prussian cockades (paint re-touch).
Please note that markings are quite faint and difficult to make out....we will NOT guarantee them to be exact...but it is the most likely correct.
