Saxon Carabinier Enlisted Tombac Pickelhaube - Lobstertail
Nice original markings - Rare
Saxon Carabinier Enlisted Mans MARKED Tombak helmet Model 1900. AOK found this helmet at a Militaria Show from a WWII Era Dealer who literally pulled this out of a garage. 18 months ago we sold it through the AOK website. The purchaser completed the helmet by adding ORIGINAL M94 tombak chinscales and repainted cockades. He has now consigned it to AOK for sale.
The helmet has not been polished or otherwise restored. Enlisted man's style body in tombac metal with silver trim. The helmet body has excellent form and contour. No extra holes in the helmet body. The exterior metal has age and oxidation discolorations, but no noted dents or dings. Elliptical EM style silver spike base with removable screw style tombac spike for replacement with a white parade plume for parade. Spike mounted to helmet with silver domed screw retainers.
The front plate is a large silver star with the center Royal Arms of Saxony device in gold. The interior leather liner is black dyed and dry but complete and still supple (see photos). The interior back visor is covered in black leather which is absolutely proper for Saxon cavalry helmets. MARKED inside helmet bell "57-5" (unique to this regiment) and inside front visor "C. 2 II" for the Saxon Carabinier Regiment, 2nd Squadron II, 2nd Detachment.
This helmet DOES NOT take a Parade lion. It only wears a white plume for parade. The helmet has Kurassier style M1894 tombac chinscales on side lugs and original large style cockades that have been repainted. A rare and original helmet that can use some TLC. We have seen a large number of marked Guard Rider EM helmets, but this is the first marked Guard Carabinier we have encountered. A beautiful and rare Saxon Carabinier EM.
