Mecklenburg Strelitz 24th Field Artillery NCO Helmet

Mecklenburg Strelitz 24th (Holstein) Field Artillery - 3rd Battery - One Year Volunteer or NCO, Model 1897. Private purchase construction. Black lacquered helmet with quality brass metal trim. Leather helmet body has fine form and firm stitching. Exterior lacquer has excellent shiney finish (see photos). No extra holes in helmet body. The spike base has officer style pearlring and artillery ball ornament that is removable. The helmet interior has light tan sweat leather and silk headliner.

The liner shows use but is still in good condition. The frontplate is the brass Mecklenburg Strelitz star on which is placed the round silver creast of Mecklenburg Strelitz. The frontplate is secured by screws (see photo). The helmet has rounded chinscales on M91 side posts. 2-Piece NCO style Reichs cockade on right side with the Blue-Red and Gold Mecklenburg NCO cockade on left side. Extremely rare Mecklenburg Strelitz that had only ONE Battery of Field Artillery. This a very nice and un-restored helmet from the WWI era.
