Hessen Wartime Reserve Infantry Enlisted Pickelhaube
Wartime reissue. Look at last picture.
Black lacquered leather helmet body with some age fatigue. Body remains in good form with firm stitching. It is an actual "Pre-War" 1895 type helmet that was "Aptiert" and most likely re-issued to a Hessen Reserve Unit. All the trim has grey finish - we have not attempted to clean. The frontplate is the Prussian line eagle with reserve cross in it center. the plate has been on this helmet forever and still fixed through the original gromets witgh original leather wedges.
The Spike top is the hessen pre-war type on crossbase that does not unscrew. This spike as seen on the pictures has also been on the helmet forever. Yes there are marks/holes for a prior round plate. Original set of cockades with lost paint and an original Leather strap complete this enigma. The inside liner is complete and mildly supple, no marks to be seen in the back visor.
The picture at the end of the listing shows a Hessen formation during the 1st War. All the soldier wearing the same uniform...however the Picklehaubes are all over board!
