Prussian 1st Garde A Foot Miter - 3rd Battalion Fusilier

Rare Helmet - Only used by 3rd Battalion

Prussian 1st Guard Regiment of Foot – 3rd Bat. (Fusilier Battalion), Enlisted Man Parade Miter Model 1894.  This Miter helmet was a historical helmet for the Prussian Army.  This pattern was copied after the style used by soldiers of Prussian King Frederick the Great and was used by the 1st Guard Regiment for special parade dress.   This helmet and another from the 3rd Fusilier Battalion that is also being offered by Age of Kings, come from an old collection in the U.S.A.

The Miter helmet has a richly ornamented stamped silver front shield. The shield has a Royal Crown on top with the monogram FR for King Frederick. In the center of the shield is the Prussian Eagle above which you find the motto for the 1GRzF “Pro Gloria et Patria”.  On top of the Miter is a white and yellow field badge (Puschal).  The front shield is supported by a silver metal band with rich ornamentation.  This band supports a yellow cloth bag “head covering" that is supported by the back of the front shield. The yellow cloth bag has white cloth piping. This cloth bag has several small 2mm moth nips (please view photos). A flat silver chinscale strap is mounted on M1894 side lugs. The chinscales do not appear to be original to the helmet (see photos). The left side M94 lug is also damage. Inside the helmet is a leather tabbed leather headliner like is normally seen in EM pickelhaube helmets. The liner is dry but is very good shape.

This helmet is more rare than that used by the 1st and 2nd Battalions. Outstanding and rare example of a historical helmet.
