Oldenburg 91st Regt. Enlisted Man Infantry Pickelhaube with Field Cover
A rare historical grouping.
Oldenburg 91st Infantry Regiment Enlisted Man with red numbered field cover – Model 1895. Recently found from the estate of an old collector. Black lacquered leather helmet body with brass trim. This helmet shows real period and WWI use. Helmet body has fine form and firm stitching to back visor (note: small damage to back visor -see photos). Exterior lacquer in excellent shape and still shiny after over 100 years. No extra holes in the helmet body. The frontplate is the Prussian Line Regiments eagle with a silver star whose center is the heraldic arms of Oldenburg. The eagle fits the helmet shell like a glove.
Enlisted style brass spike top with round base with split brad retainers. The spike does not unscrew. The helmet interior has EM style black leather lining with 9 flaps in heavily used condition. Inner visors are natural leather. Inside the helmet bell is the stamp “OJR 91” ( see photo) which is proper for this regiment. Original leather chinstrap on M91 posts. Original enlisted Reich and Oldenburg cockades. Grouping includes original EM style cloth field cover with red cloth numbers “91”. The field cover shows heavy use and some damage. The cloth “91” has moth damage. The cloth bag covering the spike top has numerous tears (see photos). The field over is ink stamp marked “57 OJR 91 7”. This is a rare and historical grouping. Seldom seen in the modern marketplace.
