Reuss 96th Infantry Regiment - II Battalion - Officer Model 1897. From a well-known old collection. Black lacquered leather helmet body with gilded brass trim. The helmet body in good condition with firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is heavily crazed with age (see photos) but has not lost any lacquer loss. No extra holes in helmet body. Interior has sweat leather and silk headliner. The headliner shows wear and is dirty.
Inner visors red and green as is normal for officer helmets. All metal trim is gilded brass. The frontplate for the helmet Prussian style line eagle with the banner “Mit Gott fur Furst und Vaterland”. On the eagle’s breast is a silver star with the Coat of Arms of Reuss in the center. Officer style round spike and base. Gold stars secure the spike base to helmet body. Flat style chinscales on gold rosettes. Standard Reichs and Weimar cockades. All original and rare regimental helmet. Very rare regimental helmet. The helmet is all original and uncleaned.
