Baden 109th Leib-Infantry Enlisted Pickelhaube

Beautifully marked R.109

Baden Leib Infantry Regiment Nr. 109 (1st Baden Regiment-Headquartered in Karlsruhe) Enlisted Man Model 1891 modified in 1895. 100% original helmet. Black lacquered leather helmet body with silver metal trim. Helmet body has excellent form and firm stitching. No extra holes in the helmet body. Originaly issued with an Eagle held by nuts and screws in 1893, the eagle was later replaced by the model 1895 held by leather wedges (see pictures). Exterior lacquer with fine exterior sheen and the usual age crazing but no cracks or loses (see pictures).

Interior has EM style black leather headliner that shows minor wear but still supple. Inside back visor with multiple ink regimental stamps "III B",“R 109 – 1909 – 11K” "L.G.R.R.R.109" (we understand the first part of the markings as Leib Grenadier Regiment...109, possibly two separate issues? and another faint date of "1893" which is probably the very first issue date! what a history. Round silver spike base with removable spike for replacement with plume for parade use. Silver domed split brad retainers hold the spike to the leather helmet. The frontplate is the Wide Winged Baden Griffen with silver Baden star in the center (see photos).

The banner “Mit Gott fur Furst und Vaterland”on the bottom of the frontplate. The frontplate is held to the helmet with the original loops and leather wedges. Flat M1895 brass chinscales fitted over M91 side lugs. EM style Reichs and Baden cockade. Beautiful original and untouched helmet. Elite Life Guard Infantry Regiment. Rare and much sought after Life Guard Infantry helmet.
