Model 1860. Franco-Prussian War
Prussian Line Dragoon Regiments with silver trim (Drag. Regts. 4, 5, 6, 10, 12 and 15) NCO pattern to Parade - Model 1860. Tall and heavy leather helmet body with German Silver metal trim. Leather helmet body has excellent form and firm stitching. Exterior leather shows age and use but no lacquer damage or loss. Full leather black dyed leather liner that is still supple with age. No extra holes in the helmet body. No markings noted inside helmet.
The frontplate is the stamped silver Prussian Dragoon eagle that is attached to the helmet body with old style looped nuts. Large silver crossed spike base with NCO style Pearl Ring at spike base. Instead of spike, the base is mount with a tall silver trichter (plume support) that is mounted with black horsehair parade plume. It is quite rare to find old style plumed helmets. The cross base is affixed to the helmet with round studs that have old style looped nuts.
Riveted back spine (see photo). Heavy black painted metal plume support under spike. Heavy rounded brass chinscales held to helmet body with silver rosettes. There is a single Prussian EM cockade on the right side of the helmet ( see photo). Impressive older pattern Dragoon O.R. helmet that dates to the Franco-Prussian War Era, the time of Great Cavalry Charges.
