Prussian 81st Landwehr Infantry Regiment (Landgraf Frederich 1 of Hessen Kassel-Hdq. Frankfurt a/Main)- Enlisted Man Model 1915 with Green Numbered field cover. From a distinguished US collection. Black lacquered leather helmet body with field gray metal trim. Standard Prussian Line EM style helmet. Helmet has excellent form and firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is in excellent condition. Interior has an EM style undyed leather lining that is still supple and in excellent condition. Round spike base with 4 split brad retainers. M-1915 style EM spike that is removable at the base.
Front plate is the Prussian Eagle with the "Mitt Gott Fur Koenig und Vaterland" banner. NO extra holes in helmet body. Original leather chinstrap and proper EM cockades. Inside back visor are no distinct regimental markings but maker stamp inside helmet bell. The helmet comes with a cloth field cover is standard wartime production with 3 hook retainers for the front and 2 for the back that fit over front and rear visors. Detachable bag for spike top. Late-1914 type cover with green letter L and numbers 81 sewn to cover indicating unit. Field cover marked in back with maker.
The previous owner noted that he purchased the helmet and cover at the Frankfurt a/Main flea market in1966. A beautiful ensemble in every way. It is rare to find such a grouping in today's marketplace. Excellent plus condition.
