Mecklenburg Schwerin FR.90 Enlisted Infantry Pickelhaube

Fusilier Regiment 90. Rare!

Mecklenburg Schwerin 90th Fusilier Regiment - Enlisted Man - Model 1868. The Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg Schwerin officially adopted the “Prussian” style Pickelhaube on July 24, 1868.  This early pattern that was used during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. Tall and heavy black lacquered leather helmet body with brass trim.  The helmet body in excellent condition with firm stitching.  Exterior lacquer is in excellent condition to near mint for its age.  No extra holes in helmet body.  Interior has black leather tongued headliner.  The liner is complete and still supple. Inner visors are natural leather with markings “FR. 90” "IB" and "1883". The front visor has the Makers Name of "A.Wunderlich in Berlin" stamped into the brass.
All metal trim is brass.  The frontplate for the helmet is the gilded 9 pointed rising star with the  silvered coat of arms of Mecklenburg Schwerin. The helmet has a round spike base with tall fluted spike mounted with a ball on top that does not unscrew as this unit did not wear a Haarbusch, note a small crease at base of spike (see pictures). This was the standard Mecklenburg Schwerin spike until it adopted the standard Prussian type in 1895.  Round studs secure the spike base to helmet body.  Flat style chinscales on brass screw type rosettes.  Cockade with the colors blue, red and yellow is the special type for Mecklenburg that si,ilate the former Silk Pattern for the Mecklenburg cockade of the Napoleonic Age. All original and rare regimental helmet from the Franco Prussian War era.
