Prussian Pioneer Officers Pickelhaube

Model 1871.

Prussian Line Pioneer Battalion Officer Model 1871. Just found “out of the woodwork” in Germany. Solid black leather helmet body with silver and brass metal fittings. Helmet is untouched and has not been cleaned or polished. Leather helmet has very good form and firm stitching. Body is definitely an early pattern due to its form and construction. Leather finish shows age and is lightly wrinkled with age but has no damage or lacquer loss. There is one slight scratch on right side of helmet (see photo).

Interior has green front and red colored back visors as it proper for officer. Sweat leather is the older style that is black leather and has smooth edge on top. Silk headliner is not ribbed and is complete. Cloth does show age and fading. Front plate is the Prussian line eagle in silver. Spike top is the shorter early style with star at base. Gild brass flat chinscales on silver rosettes. Single Officer style cockade made of black leather with a silver ring. Wonderful Pioneer Officers helmet from the time of the Franco-Prussian War. Very fine un-cleaned condition. Great display item for Franco-Prussian War era collection.
