Hessen Reserve Officer for the 117 Leib Regiment for the Grand Duchess (3rd Hessen Infantry Regiment) - Model 1897 with Black Yak hair parade plume. Fine black lacquered leather helmet body with gold metal trim. Helmet body is the classic Hessen style with a round front visor and crossed spike base. The helmet body has good form and firm stitching. The helmet exterior lacquer is overall in excellent condition (see photos). No extra holes in the helmet body. The interior has fine sweat leather and silk headliner. Interior visors are red and green as is proper for an officer helmet.
The fontplate is a golden Hessen Lion with the banners "1697" and "1897" attached to the laurel leaves on each side of the plate. In the middle of the frontplate is placed a silver Reserve Cross with the Hessen motto "Gott Ehre Vaterland". Hessen style crossed spike base without ornamentation at base of spike. Tall Hessen style fluted trichter on which is placed a full black Yak hair parade plume. Gold Hessen style semi-rounded rounded gold Officer chinscales on rosettes. Officer style 2- piece Reich and non-serrated Hessen cockades. All original and rare Hessen 117th Officer helmet. From a distinguished collection. Rare and Elite regiment.
