Saxe Weimar, 94th Infantry Officer Pickelhaube
100% Original Helmet.
Saxe-Weimar 94th Infantry Regiment Officer Model 1897 that was probably used during WWI. Black lacquered leather helmet body with gilded brass trim. Helmet body has excellent form and firm stitching. No extra holes in helmet body. Exterior lacquer excellent. Interior has sweat leather and officers silk headliner that has some tears but is overall in very good condition. Green and Red lined front and back visors respectively. Both visors with firm stitching.
The frontplate is the gilded Prussian “Fursten” Officers Eagle with the special banner “mit Gott fur Furst und Vaterland”. On the Eagles’s breast is the silver star and the arms of Saxe-Weimar. The star is soldered to the frontplate. Tall gold Officers Spike with star retainers. The base plate inside the helmet that is retaining the spike base is an unusual, vented style (see photos). Flat gilt chinscales held by gold rosettes. Officers Reichs Cockades and Green/Gold/Black Weimar cockades.
The helmet metal trim is generally discolored with all the metal being “oxidized brown” in color. This is especially noted in the color of the frontplate (see photos). This may have been a helmet used during wartime that was exposed to chlorine gas. We have seen other brass helmet that become brown after exposure to gas. Otherwise, this is an original and very attractive rare regimental helmet.
