Saxon 101st Infantry Enlisted Pickelhaube - Model 1867

Extremely Rare Model 1867 Pattern

Saxon 101st Infantry Regiment Enlisted Man Model 1867 with black horsehair parade plume and single shoulder strap from the regiment. From an old collection. Extremely rare Model made without back spine. This was the last Model change before the onset of the Franco-Prussian War. This model was widely used by troops during the war but was found to be unstable due to the lack of the back spine. In 1871 the back spine was reintroduced. Most of the original Model 1867 helmets were retro-fitted with the back spine. This helmet is one of the few that survived in its original form.
Black lacquered leather helmet with brass metal trim. The heavy leather body has retained its shape and is in excellent condition. No extra holes in helmet body. Exterior lacquer show age and use but is still in fine condition. Round spike base with pearl ring. The spike is removable for use of the black horsehair plume for parades. The plume is included with this grouping. Included also is the large shoulderstrap for the 101st Saxon Infantry Regiment. No back spine. The frontplate is the Saxon brass star with the silver arms of Saxony in the center. The star is held to the helmet with screws. Interior has leather flat tabbed EM style liner. The leather liner is complete but dry with age. Inner visors are plain leather with no markings noted. Flat chinscales on screw type rosettes. A single Saxon green and white non-serrated cockade is on the right side underneath the chinscales.
Fine Franco-Prussian War vintage helmet. Extremely RARE Model 1867 pattern helmet from a non-Prussian Regiment.
