Saxon Thuringian 153rd Infantry Regiment (8th Thuringian - Altenburg) - Enlisted Man Model 1895. Black leather helmet body with brass trim. Helmet body is in excellent form and good stitching. Exterior lacquer near perfect with only minor flaws. No extra holes in helmet body. Prewar enlisted style black dyed leather tongue style liner that is complete and still supple. Prewar quality brass trim in spite of 1916 construction date. Enlisted style spike top that does not untwist. Original brass brads holding base to helmet body.

The frontplate is the Prussian style brass Eagle with FUERST banner and the silver star and Saxon crest surround on both sides by laurel leaves. The helmet plate has a period repair to the head of the eagle. This is not evident from the front but can be seen on careful examination of the reverse side. The frontplate is secured to helmet body by leather wedges. Inside the back visor, the helmet is clearly ink stamped "J.R. 153 -1916 - E.R. - Dep. I " on the left panel. Right panel marked "B.A. IV". The 153 and 4th Army Corp. Mark is proper for the Saxon Thuringian Regiment. Also marked inside the helmet bell with the marker stamp. Missing chinstrap and cockades. Fine example of a Rare and marked Regimental helmet.
