Hessen Infantry NCO Pickehaube

Hessen Line Regiment NCO Model 1897. Fine Private Purchase - officer quality helmet. Black lacquered leather helmet body with gilded brass trim. Exterior leather finish excellent for age with no lacquer loss. Visor stitching is firm. The metal trim was gently cleaned by owner but not detractive. No extra holes in the helmet body. Interior has leather sweat leather and silk headliner. The sweat leather has some scuffs and silk headliner shows and is dirty (see photo)

The helmet has an equal sided crossed spiked base with no officer ornamentation around base. Hessen style fluted spike that is removable. Rounded front visor trim. The finely gilded frontplate is the Hessen Lion holding an upward sword. The frontplate is held to the helmet body with screw attachments. There are NO extra holes in the helmet body. The backspine is the traditional Hessen style with rivet on the spine. Rounded chinscales on rosettes. NCO Reich and Hessen cockades. BEAUTIFUL helmet.
