Prussian Guard Foot Artillery – 4th Company (Colberg) Officer Model 1897. From a well-known old collection. Black lacquered leather helmet body with gilded brass trim. The helmet body in excellent condition with firm stitching. Exterior lacquer still is shiny. No extra holes in helmet body. Interior has sweat leather and silk headliner. Inner visors red and green as is normal for officer helmets. All metal trim is gilded brass.
The frontplate for the helmet is the Guards Prussian Eagle with the Star of the Prussian Black Eagle Order on the eagle’s chest. On the bottom of the eagle’s tail is an added gilded shield the “Colberg 1807” to commemorate this Companies service at the siege of Colberg during the Napoleonic War. Round spike base with tall round artillery ball. Gold stars on split brads secure the spike base to helmet body. Flat style chinscales on gold rosettes. Officer Reichs and Prussian cockades. This helmet shows period use and wear.
