French "Pompier" Fireman Helmet around 1840.

King Louis Phillipe Era.

$850.00

Helmet made of brass, including the Shell, Cimier, Frontplates etc... The shell is of the 1830's era in the "Minerve" style - extremely tall -with a nicely ornate cimier topped with a black horsehair "chenille".  Cimier is the extremely (and earlier) tall type in overall excellent shape with only some minor dings or deffects (see pictures). The frontplate is the French Rooster with its foot on a globe. The Bandeau read "Sapeur Pompier de Chamblanc" along with a smaller cartouche "Devouement". Surounding bandeau with oak leaves.

The front visor has the crossed axes complex decor. Visor is not the fixed type it can be moved up or down. The back visor has the original red "basane" leather. Square type Plumet holder, slightly detached and screw missing (see pictures). Original stamped out brass chinscales mounted on Rosettes. A later model red "plumet" completes this helmet. A nice and very decorative helmet reasonably priced.
