Alsace/Lorraine Reichs Gendarme Enlisted Pickelhaube

Reichs-Gendarme Infantry Enlisted Man Model 1895. Literally an out of the attic find. The helmet is genuinely salty. Black lacquered leather helmet body with brass trim. The helmet body has excellent form and firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is in good condition. The lacquer is matte due to age and storage. The interior of the helmet has complete black EM leather liner. Inner visors natural colored leather. No clear markings identified. No extra holes in the helmet body.

Front plate is the "Reich" Imperial Eagle frontplate that is attached to helmet with original leather wedges. The trim including base/spike has not been cleaned or polished. Brass brads at base of helmet (one brad has been replaced). The spike is not removable. Leather chinstrap has been replaced. Single Reichs cockade that has been repainted. Nice original helmet that shows genuine use and wear. Rare Imperial Eagle frontplate. These helmets came in two variants, the "infantry type" and the Mounted type which followed the Prussian Dragoon model with the only diffrence being the Reichs Frontplate and One Reichs Cockade. Great WWI era helmet used until 1918.
