Original Prussian Garde Reserve Officer
Prussian Guard Infantry Reserve Officer - Model 1897. From the Rich Ames Collection. Black lacquered leather helmet body with fine silver metal trim. The leather helmet body in excellent condition with firm stitching. The exterior lacquer is in near flawless condition with a bright finish and no lacquer loss. Round spike base with spike top and gold star retainers. The frontplate is the silver Prussian Guards Eagle without banner “Mit Gott fur Koenig und Vaterland” but does have the silver star with the enameled Black Eagle order in the center. Under the Guard Star is placed a large gold Prussian Landwehr cross.
The helmet body does have extra holes due to the removal of the active Guard Eagle and replacement with the Reserve Officer eagle. The space between the extra holes is less than 1/4 inch (see photo). The helmet interior has standard officer sweat leather and silk headliner in excellent condition. Inner visors colored red and green as is proper for an officer helmet. Flat gilt chinscales on silver rosettes. Original Reichs and Prussian Officer cockades. Original Prussian Guard Reserve officer helmet from an old collection. Mr. Ames had a number of Reserve Officer helmets as he himselt was a Reserve Officer in the USAF. Excellent overall condition.
