Reuss 96th Infantry Regiment - II Battalion - Officer Model 1897. From Rich Ames collection. Black lacquered leather helmet body with gilded brass trim. All metal trim is slightly darkened with age. The helmet body in excellent condition with firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is only lightly dulled with age (see photos) and has not lost any lacquer. No extra holes in helmet body. Interior has sweat leather and silk headliner. The headliner shows slight wear.

Inner visors red and green as is normal for officer helmets. All metal trim is gilded brass. The frontplate for the helmet Prussian style line eagle with the banner “Mit Gott fur Furst und Vaterland”. On the eagle’s breast is a silver star with the Coat of Arms of Reuss in the center. Officer style round spike and base. Gold stars secure the spike base to helmet body. Flat style chinscales on gold rosettes. Standard Reichs and Weimar cockades. All original and rare regimental helmet. Very rare regimental helmet. The helmet is all original and uncleaned.
