Bavarian Leib Infantry Officer Model 1897. From the Rich Ames Collection. Black lacquered fiber helmet with silver metal trim. The helmet has near perfect form and firm stitching. Lacquer finish remains near perfect with no crazing . Square front visor with green interior lining, back visor with red lining. Inside calfskin and silk lining is also in near excellent condition.
The frontplate is the matte silver type with the bright highlights. The frontplate has darkened with age but can be easily brightened back to original finish. No extra holes in the helmet body behind the plate. This helmet has never been cleaned or polished. Officers style cross base maintained by 3 stars and one front center brad. Tall fluted spike that unscrews. Beautiful silver flat chinscales maintained by rosettes. Original Reichs and Bayern officers Cockades. Rare Life-Guard helmet from Bavaria. Easily clean to pristine condition.
