Baden 109th Leib Infantry Officer Pickelhaube - MINT

Baden 109th Leib Grenadier Regiment Officer Model1897-1916. From a prestigious US collection. Black fiber body with beautiful silver trim. The helmet body is in MINT condition with firm stitching. The back finish is mirror like. There are no extra holes in the helmet body. Interior has officer sweat leather and silk headliner. All trim is fine pre-war quality. The frontplate is the frosted silver wide winged Griffen with the red enameled cross on the breast (see photos). The enamel is in pristine condition.

The silver spike and base are made in the special detachable style (see photos) that was common in wartime officer helmets. The spike is also removable for use of a parade plume. Gold chinscales with faux silver rosette over M91 side log. This pattern was first introduced in April by the D.V.E.Nr. 317 as an “Aenderungungen” to the officer helmet style of 1897 (see attached). He allowed for used of leather chinstrap and removal of the spike in the field (see attached).

Officer Reichs and Baden cockades the fit over M91 side lug. This is a perfect helmet that appears to have never been worn. It is not uncommon in the early war years. Rich young officers would purchase fancy “parade” uniforms that were stored for future use. Sadly, many of the young men were killed at the front with their beautiful parade gear left with the family. That is the finest Wartime helmet we have ever seem. Unique and important helmet.
