Braunschweig 17th Hussar NCO Busby Plate
Rare and unusual
Braunschweig 17th Hussar silver skull and gold Banner for NCO private purchase circa 1900. The frontplate is very shiney silver metal. Stamped metal skull has screw back for retention on the back. The position of the screw back are in the same position as the retaining pins would have been located. The skull frontplate is lacking detail (see photo). The arc banner (Peninsula-Sicilien-Waterloo-Mars la Tour) celebrates this regiments service in the Napoleonic and Franco-Prussian Wars. It is the proper style and color for the Braunschweig 17th Hussar frontplate. The back has 2 loops that are proper for an EM/NCO style Hussar banner. Please view all the photos carefully and contact us at AOK if you have any questions. We (AOK) do not often find original Hussar plates so we enlisted a collector friend to help us with evaluating this set. His evaluation is that the silver Skull is probably made in the 1930's thus is a post WWI set. He believes that the Banner is an original piece. It is an an extremely rare and unusual set.
