Prussian Bandmaster Officer Pickelhaube
Great Regimental Bandmaster
Prussian Infantry Bandmaster Officer Model 1897. From the Rich Ames Collection. Black lacquered leather helmet body with gilt metal trim. Helmet body has excellent form and firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is shiny in near MImnt condition. No extra holes in helmet body. Interior has sweat leather and white silk headliner that is in near mint condition. Very large helmet that is probably size 59. Inner visors red and green as is normal for officer helmets.
The frontplate for the helmet is the Line Prussian Eagle fixed to the helmet shell with screws/nuts. The helmet has a Standard Officer spike base with a tall smooth trichter on which is mounted a red horse hair plume. The base is secured to the helmet body with 4 split brads stars. The red plume indicated the wearer was a musician and as it is an officer helmet we conclude he was a Bandmaster for his unit. Flat gilt chinscales on rosettes. Officer Reichs and Prussian cockades. Beautiful helmet in near pristine condition. Great regimental Bandmaster.
