Rare helmet to find in todays market place

Mecklenburg Schwerin 18th Dragoon Regiment - NCO - Model 1871-97. The helmet is the squared front visor "Dragoon Style" black lacquered leather helmet body with all German Silver metal trim. Helmet body in excellent condition with firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is matte with age but still is shiny. There are NO extra holes in helmet body. The helmet interior has standard EM style leather headliner. Both sweat leather and silk headliner show age and use (See photos) but are otherwise in good condition. Inner visors are natural color. Inside the helmet bell is written in white ink/paint “D 18 2E 1889”.

All metal trim is German silver with the exception of the frontplate and chinscales. The Mecklenburg Schwerin rising Star frontplate in gold/tombac with silver heraldic arms of Schwerin has left deep impression in the helmet body as evidenced in photos. Crossed silver spike base with tall fluted spike for service wear. Round stud screw attachments secure the spike base to helmet body. Rounded silver chinscales on silver rosettes. NCO style Reich (indicating helmet use after 1897) and special non serrated Mecklenburg Schwerin cockade (see photo). This helmet shows period use and wear but is in overall in excellent. This helmet has not been cleaned or polished. Perfect example of a marked and very rare Mecklenburg Schwerin NCO.
