Imperial German "Kriegs Marine" Navy - Teller Mutze

A nice WW1 Era Cap

$325.00
Imperial German "Kriegs Marine" Navy - Teller Mutze

Imperial German Naval enlisted man "Teller Mutze". Dark blue wool construction. The top wool piece is not removable. The cap band woven with metal thread for "S.M.S. Karlsruhe" . The inside has a light colored sweatband. The inside top piece has navy blue silk headliner. Reich cockade on front in metal. The makers information and Imperial Crown printed in top but has largely diminished with age and use. Some small moth nips in top that are not detractive.
The original SMS Karlsruhe was sunk at the outset of WWI. A handwritten date of 1916 demotes this cap as coming from the new Karlsruhe that was commissioned in 1916. She saw relatively limited service during the war, due to her commissioning late in the conflict. She was present during a brief engagement with British light forces in August 1917, though she did not actively participate in the battle. She joined the large task force assigned to Operation Albion in October 1917. The Karlsruhe was interned in Scapa Flow after the end of the war, and scuttled there on 21 June 1919. This is a wonderful WWI era cap.
