Marked to JR.168 - 1915

$1 995.00

RARE Hessen 168th Infantry Regiment (5th Grand Duke Hessen Regt. - Founded in 1897 - Butzbach) Enlisted Man Model 1915. From an old collection. This helmet is the very RARE round spike base Model 1915 pattern. The helmet is beautifully marked to the Hessen 168 Inf. Regt. and dated 1915. We see many put-together Hessen field gray helmets, but this is the only one we can CONFIRM is a genuine piece. Black leather helmet in the standard Prussian M1915 style with field gray metal trim EM style helmet. Black lacquered leather body with round front visor and field gray trim.

Helmet has excellent form and firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is in near mint condition. The helmet interior has an EM style leather lining that is a bit dry and has lost a leather tab but is still in good condition. Round spike base with 4 split brad retainers. Field Gray EM type spike that twists off at base. The front plate is the Rampant Hessen Lion that is held to helmet body with leather wedges. NO extra holes in the helmet body. Original leather chinstrap and Reichs serrated and Hessen non-serrated cockades . Inside of the back visor is the marked "I.R 168 1915". A beautiful helmet in every way. It is rare to find such a nicely marked field gray Hessen wartime helmet. This Helmet is a "must have" piece for a WWI headgear collector.
