Prussian Pioneer Officer Pickelhaube

Prussian Pioneer Batallion Officer - Model 1871. From a distinguished US Collection. Black lacquered leather helmet body with fine silver metal trim. The leather helmet body has fine form and excellent stitching. The exterior lacquer shows age and mild crazing but is in overall excellent condition with no lacquer loss. The helmet body does not have extra holes. Silver round spike base with spike top and gold star retainers. The spike is removable. The frontplate is the silver Prussian heraldic Eagle with banner “Mit Gott fur Koenig und Vaterland”. The helmet interior is the standard old pattern leather tongued liner that is in excellent condition (see photos). Inner visors colored red and green as is proper for an officer helmet. Flat gilt chinscales on silver rosettes. Original single Prussian Officer cockade which is proper for this era. Excellent Franco-Prussian War period helmet from the Pioneers.
