Beautiful Regimental Markings

Mecklenburg Schwerin 18th Dragoon Regiment Model 1871-97. The helmet is the squared front visor "Dragoon Style" black lacquered leather helmet body with all German Silver metal trim. Helmet body in excellent condition with firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is matte with age. There are NO extra holes in helmet body. The helmet interior has standard EM style leather headliner in excellent condition with remnants of the original drawstring in leather. Inner visors are natural color. Inside the helmet bell is written in white ink/paint “D.18. 1894” "I.E.II".

All metal trim is German silver with the exception of the frontplate. The Mecklenburg Schwerin rising Star frontplate in gold/tombac with silver heraldic arms of Schwerin has left deep impression in the helmet body. Plate ha snot been removed nor cleaned. Crossed silver spike base with tall fluted spike for service wear. Round stud screw attachments secure the spike base to helmet body. Rounded silver chinscales on silver rosettes. Enlisted style Reich (indicating helmet use after 1897) and Mecklenburg Schwerin cockade (see photo). This helmet shows only minor period use and wear and is in overall excellent+ condition. This helmet has not been cleaned or polished.
