First Model Pickelhaube -Model 1842

Prussian Infantry Reserve Officer Model 1842. From an old American Collection. Tall black lacquered leather helmet body squared front visor trim and gilded brass silver metal trim. The helmet body has excellent form and firm stitching. The exterior lacquer in excellent condition. There are 2 extra holes in the helmet body related to the frontplate change from active to reserve plate (see photos). The helmet interior has period black flat tabbed leather liner that was used by officer helmet. The headliner is in excellent condition.

The inner visors red and green as is proper for an officer helmet. The frontplate is the Prussian Line Eagle with a silver reserve cross on the Eagles breast. The reserve cross has been damaged with the loss of the upper cross portion. Heavy crossed spike base with gold star retainers. Tall officer spike that is not removable. Large rounded gold chinscales on gold rosettes with long exterior screw attachment (see photos). Single large black leather Prussian Officer cockade with silver ring. Outstanding and rare First Model Prussian helmet. Near mint helmet with exception of damage to reserve cross.
