Bavarian Landwehr Infantry Officers Pickelhaube - Named
Unique Green Felt Construction. Wartime Helmet
Bavarian Landwehr Infantry Officer Model 1897 (circa 1915-1916). Beautiful black lacquered Felt (Filz) helmet body with fire gilded metal trim. The helmet body is in near mint condition and firm stitching. The unique GREEN felt construction -we have seen black felt but never green- indicates that this helmet was most likely manufactured in the late 1916's. The exterior finish is near flawless. The interior of the helmet has soft sweat leather and beige silk headliner which shows some wear and tear (see photos).
Inside lining on both sides is the stamp of the Officer "Leutnant d.L. Josef Wild 4.Bayer. Landsturm Inf. Bataillon Augsburg"
Inner visors colored red and green. No extra holes in the helmet body. Officers cross base maintained by 4 stars. Tall fluted officer spike that unscrews. Fine gilded Bavarian Officer frontplate on the front of helmet with the center bearing the Silver Landwehr cross. Flat semi-convex officer chinscales (regulation after 1915) maintained by rosettes. Both Reichs and Bavarian Officer Cockades. This is a beautiful helmet with nice provenance in excellent condition.
