Prussian/Hanoverian 165th “Waterloo” Infantry Regiment Enlisted Man Model 1895. Fine untouched helmet from the old New England collection. Black lacquered leather helmet with brass trim. Helmet body in excellent shape with firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is lightly crazed with age but no lacquer loss. The helmet body has a small extra hole -no idea why as the plate fits the grommeted ones??. All metal trim has the same oxidized brass color. Interior black dyed leather liner is complete and still supple. Inside back visor is stamped “BA IV” (4th Army Corp) which is proper for the 165th Regiment All other Hanoverian “Waterloo” helmets are from the 10 Army Corps. The 165th was stationed in Quedlinburg and Blankenburg.

Inside the top bell of the helmet is the maker marks “Aktien Gez. Thiele” and the date “1915”. The helmet from plate is the Line Prussian Eagle with the banner “Waterloo” for their service at the great battle. The helmet plate is stamped in one piece. The Eagle is held to the helmet body with original leather wedges. Brass spike and base with domed retainers. Original leather chinstrap and Reichs and Prussian EM cockades. Beautiful helmet with fantastic Provenance.
