Oldenburg 62nd Field Artillery-2nd and 3rd Batteries, Enlisted Man/NCO - Model 1895. Black lacquered leather helmet body with brass metal trim. Leather helmet body has firm stitching and remains in excellent condition with surface still shiny in spite its age. No extra holes in the helmet body. Officer style sweat leather and silk headliner. This is common for privately purchased helmets. Plain interiors visors with no legible markings. The frontplate is the Prussian style line Eagle with a silver star and device with the Crest of Oldenburg in the center.
The frontplate is held to the helmet body with screw posts and nuts. The Silver Oldenburg crest attached with screws ( see photos). The round base is affixed with a non-removable artillery ball device. The back spine is smooth as required for field artillery helmets. The base is secured to helmet body with split brad retainers. Original rounded EM style chinscales on M91 side posts. Original Reich and Oldenburg blue with red band cockades. This helmet is from the old 1960’s collection. Rare state and unit.
