Hessen 115th Leib Infantry Enlisted Pickelhaube
Very Rare Franco-Prussian War era helmet
Hessen 115th Life Guard Infantry Regiment (The Grand Duke of Hessen Regiment) – Enlisted Man – Model 1867. Recently acquired from a European Collector who specialized in Franco-Prussian War era helmet. Black lacquered leather in very good condition with minor crazing but a 1.5 inch crease in back right panel (see Photo). It could be an old War Wound! Otherwise, the helmet is perfect. Firm stitching and no extra holes in helmet body.
Brass metal trim that was left untouched/uncleaned as found. The frontplate is the Hessen Lion. Behind the plate the special brass commemoration bandeau with "1621" indicating the founding year of the Regiment. Hessen style cross base mounted with brass split brads. The spike is removable. Early style heavy rounded chinscales on rosettes retained by steel screws. Large single white with red bands EM style cockade. Inside black EM style liner that is in excellent condition. Impressive and very Rare Franco-Prussian War era helmet from an elite regiment.
