Bavarian "BING" Black Laquered Metal Ersatz Pickelhaube
This is the Classic Archetypal WWI metal Ersatz helmet.
RARE!! Bavarian Bing Infantry Black metal Ersatz helmet circa 1914. The "Gebruder Bing A.G." (Bing Brothers Company) were manufacturers of toys from Nuremberg since 1863. They received a contract from the Bavarian Government for 100,000 metal Ersatz helmets in 1914. They are considered making the first metal ersatz helmets of WWI.
The stamped metal helmet body in NEAR MINT condition with a beautiful sheen to black enamel and only (yes only) a couple of dings to body...the rest is perfectly preserved (see photos). Brass trim that has never been cleaned. Beautiful Bavarian front plate in stamped brass. Round spike base with smooth enlisted spike. 4 retaining brads. Inside lining dyed black in good condition with some minor tears (see pictures). Original chinstrap metal pieces but leather has been replaced. Original Reichs and Bavarian EM Cockades (with original white felt rings behind cockade). This is the Classic Archetypal WWI metal Ersatz helmet.
