Beautiful wartime helmet that is 100% original
Prussian Guard (silver trimmed) Regiments, Officer Model 1897. Beautiful wartime helmet that is 100% original. Black lacquered helmet body with silver trim. Helmet has good form and firm stitching. The exterior lacquer is matte with age and has a small bruise with lacquer loss on left side of helmet (see photo). There are no extra holes behind frontplate. Behind the frontplate is a colorful makers label “Prima Qualitat” with the size "54 ½" handwritten on it. Helmet interior has sweat leather and silk headliner that is near mint condition. Interior visors lined with red and green as is proper for officer helmets.
Right side of back visor has small bend or crease with old repair that is not detractable. All metal parts are gray toned with oxidation and age. The silver metal trim can still be seen on the edges. The front plate is the Prussian Eagle with enameled Guard star. Tall removable spike secured to helmet body with star retainers. Flat gilt chinscales on silver rosettes. Officer Reichs and Prussian 2-piece cockades. This helmet may be one of the Wartime “ Urlaub oder Hochzeit” helmets that were used when the officer returned home on leave and got married. In many cases they were never worn again. This is an original WWI era historical helmet that is all original. The helmet is for the discriminating collector.
