Prussian Garde Artillery Officers Pickelhaube

Prussian Guard Field Artillery Regiment "Officer Aspirant" serving as an Officer Model 1897.  Uncleaned - Straight out of a distinguished old collection.Black lacquered leather body with round front visor and gilt trim. Interior has officer sweat leather and silk headliner.  Interior visors are not colored.  Round officer spike base retained by 4 gold and topped with a tall round ball. Frontplate is the large winged Garde Eagle nicely GILT frosted with in its center the Silver Star of the black eagle Order  and the "SUMM CUIQUE" motto. Frontplate left deep marks in leather as can be seen in pictures and is a definite original to this helmet but there are a second set of holes right by the each other.  Possibly a reserve plate when the man was a One Year Volunteer.  Original officer cockades mounted underneath convex gilt chinscales and rosettes.  The wearer of this helmet probably went through the One Year Volunteer program and was elevated to full officer rand during the War years.  This was commonly done and the owner did not get a new helmet, merely changed some of the metal hardware.  Great period helmet.  Uncleaned and all original.
