Prussian Enlisted Infantry Pickelhaube

Nice transition period piece

Prussian Enlisted Infantry Pickelhaube

Prussian Line Enlisted Man Model 1871-1892. Beautiful tall black lacquered leather helmet body with polished brass metal trim. The helmet body was probably issued in the late 1880's and was later refit with side lugs when they were introduced in 1892. The helmet body has fine form and firm stitching. Back visor appears to have been re-stitched/repaired (see pictures). Exterior lacquer shows age and use but is still shiny. The interior of the helmet has black enlisted style leather liner that is complete but in used condition. Inner visors of helmet have darkened with age making markings hard to read. No extra holes in the helmet body.

The front plate is the Prussian Line Eagle that is held to helmet by the earlier screw attachment. The loops and leather wedges were for helmets produced after 1891. The spike andbase are the older style that is larger and has a pearl ring. The spike is not removable. The back spine does not have a vented slip in back. Original M1892 leather chinstrap over side lugs. Reichs and Prussian Enlisted cockades. Nice transition period piece of the Pickelhaube. Bargain priced.
