Prussian 2nd Foot Artillery - 3rd Co. - "Colberg 1807" Pickelhaube
An extremely rare and original regimental helmet.
Prussian 2nd Foot Artillery - 3rd Company (Colberg) Artillery (1st Pommeranian - von Hindersin) Regiment Officer Model 1897. Black lacquered leather body with round front visor and gilt trim. Interior has officer sweat leather and silk headliner that shows wear and use (see photos). Interior visors are colored red and green. No extra holes in helmet body. Round officer base retained by 4 gold stars and topped with a tall round artillery ball. Frontplate is the Prussian Eagle with the "FWR" monogram on the eagles breast and the banner "Colberg 1807" on the lower portion of the eagle. Original "Banners" on Eagle's feet which is proper for this unique frontplate. Frontplate has period repair to the scepter. Plate has left deep marks in leather as can be seen in pictures and is a definite original to this helmet. Original officer cockades mounted underneath flat chinscales and rosettes. In the past the metal trim has been polished. This is evident by dried polish that was left on the leather. Polish has taken some of the gilding off the frontplate (see photos). Overall condition 2- but this is an extremely rare and original regimental helmet.
