French Enlisted Garde Cuirassier Ensemble

Beautiful set in excellent + condition

$6 650.00

Model 1854 Cuirasse with its front « Plastron » in polished steel with 21 brass rivets. Marked inside of the Klingenthal Manufacture. The Back Plate has the shoulder boards with leather underlays and the « 8 » type chains retaining it. This pattern of brass chains with steel endings was only used by this Regiments. Furthermore, the cuirasse is of the more desirable type « a la mode » and fitted to the rider.

Model 1854 Helmet. Steel helmet body embossed in two parts and assembled. Tall brass Cimier with Medusa head frontal pattern specific to this model helmet only. Red horshair « Marmouset » and original black horsehair tail. Helmet stamped by Delachaussée in and oval stamp. Dated “54” for 1854 and numbered “95”. The front Bandeau is also unique to this helmet and has the “N” embossed into it.
The inside has the original Leather lining in excellent condition as well as both visor lined with thin leather ‘basane”.

Overall set comes from a old collection and we left the “patina” untouched. Both Cuirasse and Helmet have been touched-up with steel wool or similar as there is no surface rust what so ever, overall condition is Excellent +. It is quite unusual to find a 175 year helmet with all of its original leather pieces in such nice condition (including the original underlay of visors).
