French Dragoon Enlisted Model 1872/74 Steel Helmet
100% Original Cavalry Helmet.
French Cavalry Helmet for the 3rd Republic era...right after Napoleon the 3rd. This pattern was copied after the earlier Garde Cuirassier Helmets used during the second Empire. Polished steel body with brass trim. The front Bandeau has the flaming grenade surrounded by laurel leaves. Tall "cimier" with the medusa head and black horse hair tail in its back.
A very nice set of chindscales that are "hooked" to the sides complete this helmet. Back visor beautifully marked with the Regiment "26 Dragoon" Issue number "922" Issue Date "1875" and size "55". Also some faded markings of the fabricant "Alexis Godillot". The inside of the helmet has the regulation leather liner in nice slightly worn condition with both front and back visor lined in fine "basane" leather. A very nice helmet in excellent + condition.
