French Dragon Enlisted Man Helmet of the 2nd Empire type. Model 1858
Straight woodwork find. 100% Original and very nice French Cavalry helmet. Left untouched/uncleaned as found.
Brass helmet shell with small dents and nice regimental markings. Tall Cimier of the model 1858 with black the original horsehair mane used to protect the wearer from sword cuts during battle. The top front of the chimer is mounted with the Black Haired Marmouset (red for Cuirassier) of the proper model.
Chained original chinscales mounted on leather straps and held to the helmet shell by floral motif brass roundels. The original to period "imitation" Leopard skin surrounds the b1/2 base of the helmet and is attached to the back as can be seen on the pictures. The helmet shell is identified to the 9th dragon Regiment with a very late manufacturing date of 1871. from what we can make out. Inside lining under both visors in very good shape. Leather liner remains supply with some tears on one side but no major problems.
A genuine helmet in excellent + condition that needs some TLC. 100% original to period.
