City of Berlin (Prussia) Police Officer circa 1898 to 1918. Black lacquered leather helmet body with silver metal trim. Classic Imperial German police style helmet. Leather helmet body has good form and strong stitching. Exterior lacquer shows age "bubbling" to finish and some scuffing on right side of helmet. On left side of helmet near the spike base one can see a small 1/4 inch cut to leather (see photo). No extra holes in helmet body. Complete with leather EM style liner. Liner missing 3 tabs and is dry. Front plate is the stylized W monogram (for Kaiser Wilhelm II as King of Prussia) topped by a Royal Crown. On the front of the Monogram is the banner "1848-In Treue Fest-1898". This banner was added to all Berlin police officer helmets in 1898 (see photocopy). Spike is smooth with a ball on top mounted on a crossed base. Base is affixed to helmet with round studs. Half rounded silver chinscales with single Prussian NCO style cockade. Attractive helmet in the Imperial German Police classic style. Bargain priced.
