Prussian 6th Kurassier (Tzar Nicholas Regiment) Enlisted Mans helmet Model 1857-60. Helmet is probably a modification from and earlier style helmet due to it weight and size. Beautiful and heavy tombak lobstertail helmet with German silver fittings. Helmet body has excellent form and has fine exterior finish. Visors firmly attached. Interior has full early style leather liner. Interior of visors painted black on back and green on front. Helmet marked with the number "4" underneath right cockade. No other markings noted in helmet. Most of paint has worn off but is all original.
Body has 1 set of extra holes which is consistent with the modification from an earlier pattern. Frontplate is the Prussian line eagle in German silver. Unique fixation to helmet body with nuts that go through the eagle and helmet body. The head of the screw is a simulated furl of the helmet banner. This is a special device used with early kurassier style front plates. Football shaped spike base with original domed screws with loop/nut attachments (see photo). Rounded chinscales on screw attached rosettes. Single stamped metal large size Prussian cockade. Impressive and beautiful helmet from the rarely seen 6th Kurassier Regiment.
