Straight woodwork find of a Rare Regiment in overall excellent condition. For Grenadier Regiments: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12 & 145.
Black lacquered leather body in nice overall condition with only some minor crazing. Beautiful fire gild trim with large winged eagle frontplate. Eagle retains approx. 80%of original fire gilt finish. "Mit Gott Für Koenig und Vaterland" bandeau for line units. Note that these eagles were replaced on the helmets between the dates of 1897 all the way until 1913 (September 1913 for the 145th Infantry Regiment). Hence this helmet has the original holes from the initial "FWR" type frontplate, later replaced with the large winged Grenadier Eagle. Furthermore as can be witnessed from the pictures, the plates definitely belonged to this helmet and left deep marks in the leather.
Flat gilt chinscales over Prussian and Reichs Officer Cockards, Beautiful fire gilt spike over round base retained by 4 stars. Inside helmet marked with size (58 1/2) and Officers name and unit? Beautiful and complex calfskin liner in excellent to near mint condition with green silk lining, mostly loose in the helmet except front part stitching.
Overall a very rare helmet in Excellent + condition. Hard to find in untouched original condition.
